Travel Options
NOTE: Construction is underway in various sections of Emporia. Please use caution and pay attention to road signs.
Flying
Most airlines have special discounts when making advance reservations. Typically, airlines can have 30-day, 21-day, and 7-day advance reservation discounts.
Be aware of issues such as Saturday night stay-over and certain restrictions such as no-changes, no-refunds, etc. We advise travelers to get price quotes from at least two travel services.
Generally, the sooner you make your arrangements, the less money you will spend. Nearby airports include Kansas City International (MCI) or Wichita Airport (ICT).
Car Rental
The best way to get from Kansas City or Wichita airport to Emporia is a rental car. A rental car gives you extra freedom once you arrive. The best prices for rental cars are usually obtained from a good travel service. They can shop around for you, but help them by starting early!
You can expect to drive a round-trip total of about 280 miles from Kansas City or 190 miles from Wichita. Add some miles for local travel, sightseeing, etc. With car rental, the weekly rate with unlimited mileage often makes the most sense.
Occasionally, students ask if we can meet them at the airport. Scheduling and expense makes this impractical. Course fees won't cover this type of extra expense. Even for a fee, we can't pick you up because we aren't licensed (or insured) as a chauffeur/taxi service. Our distance from an airport is a slight disadvantage, but the low costs of meals and accommodations will make up for much of the added expense.
Look at the local car rental companies.
Driving Your Own Vehicle
You may decide that driving your own vehicle is more practical. We have adequate parking for your car, truck, or even a larger recreational vehicle. If you need directions when you arrive in Emporia, you may call us until 5:00 pm; otherwise, we recommend going directly to your hotel.
