Location

Glendo Corporation is the home of GRS Tools for Engravers and Jewelers, Accu-Finish Precision Tool Sharpeners, and the HandWorker, a pneumatic tool that turns any hand tool into a power tool. Located about midway between Kansas City and Wichita, our facility is in Emporia, Kansas, at 900 Overlander Road.

This photo of the Kansas Flint Hills was taken by D.J. Glaser in early November 2008 just before dusk. The north-looking view is located in Chase County, less than 15 miles driving distance from the GRS Training Center in Emporia. This scene shows the native Tallgrass hills after they have turned from summer green to autumn tan. In the early 1800s, this area was the home to both buffalo and Native American tribes including the Kansa (also called Kaw) Indians after whom Kansas was named. It is apparent why they loved it here. We at GRS appreciate the surrounding natural landscape and hope you have a chance to see it yourself. If you would like directions to this site, please ask.

Weather

Spring and fall are transition seasons with rain more likely. It may be warm or cool. Occasional thunderstorms in late spring through summer may occur.

During summer (late June through mid September) highs can reach the mid 90s and higher. Short sleeves and lightweight pants (or shorts for casual wear) are perfect for summer.

Winter is cold with average nightly lows of 0° to 20°. Daily winter highs average 20° to 40°. Snow and ice, although not usually a problem, may occur late December through February. Heavy coats, gloves, etc., are usually necessary.

Community

With a population of approximately 30,000, Emporia is a modest and typical Midwestern city. Emporia has a surprising balance of industry, culture, education, and agriculture.

Emporia State University has over 6,000 full-time students from around the world. Emporians are very Midwestern. Speech patterns lack any strong accent. Food tends to be basic, but Mexican and Chinese restaurants thrive. Many fast food franchises are readily available.
