Valentin is a renowned master silversmith whose spectacular work is exhibited around the world. His training and fine arts study began in his Bulgarian homeland during the early 1970’s. He then worked for some of Bulgaria’s finest painters and silversmiths. Trained in the “old world” apprenticeship system of Europe, he became the youngest member in history of the National Silversmiths Guild of Bulgaria at the age of 22. Three years later, he was president of the Guild. Today, Valentin and his family live in the United States. In 1994, he founded the Valentin Yotkov Studio in Brooklyn, New York, which is recognized as the only school in the country specializing in chasing, raising, and repoussé instruction. His studio now attracts students, jewelers, and metalsmiths from around the world to learn these ancient metalwork techniques executed at this very high level. His students include members of Tiffany & Co.’s silverware department and numerous independent artisans.
