Tira Mitchell
Biography
Tira has been involved with the arts since the age of eight. She studied classical music for many years and entered Boston University School of the Arts as a music performance major.
After graduating with a business degree she was introduced to engraving and transitioned from music to metal. She applied the focus, attention to detail and control which she developed during her early years to the new discipline of engraving.
From the beginning, she specialized in large format, challenging objects like heavy brass bells, auto parts and motorcycle struts.
She especially enjoys engraving theme bikes where multiple motorcycle pieces are engraved with a similar design. Her projects have been on display nationally from California to Florida including the high profile Gibson Guitar Anniversary motorcycle built by Donnie Smith which debuted during Daytona Bike Week in 2004.
She works with individual bike builders and custom motorcycle dealers. She loves solving problems that come with unusual projects and applies her art in media as diverse as stainless steel and eggshell. She can move from auto restoration engraving to jewelry and from flashlights to firearms.
