Steve Dunn
Biography
Steve began making knives as a hobby in 1988. In 1990 he enrolled in the basic forging class at the ABS (American Bladesmith Society) school in Washington, Arkansas.
Steve progressed quickly through the Apprentice and Journeyman levels and achieved Master Smith level in 1994.
Soon after, he began teaching for the ABS and regularly teaches at least one 5-day course yearly, plus two weekend seminars.
His ABS courses include a very wide range including basic forging, advanced Damascus, and fancy folders.
When he first began making knives years ago, the only artisans other than Steve that worked on his knives were engravers because he did not engrave.
In 2002 he decided to add engraving to his own skills. To start, he enrolled in a GRS Basic Engraving course. After that and with some practice in his workshop, he began to engrave his own knives. Believing in his own continued education, he then enrolled in a more advanced GRS course: Bulino.
In 2003 he was asked to serve on the ABS Board of Directors. His work has been featured in both Blade Magazine and The Bladesmith Journal.
Today he’s an engraving instructor, an ABS instructor, a Master Bladesmith, and a professional knife maker.
