Sam Alfano
Biography
Sam’s unique training and exquisite style lets students gain the influence of “old-world” engraving masters.
He’s a multi-talented artist who began engraving in the early 70’s. In 1982, he was hired by Stanley Diefenthal of New Orleans Arms Company to engrave his personal guns.
During this time, one of the world’s great engravers, Lynton McKenzie, became his personal trainer, sharing what other engravers would not.
Two years later, he traveled to Brescia, Italy to study the fine techniques of Bulino engraving from the renowned Firmo Fracassi, who is unquestionably one of the world’s top firearms engraving artists.
Today, his intricately engraved designs are often found on high-end custom knives owned by knowledgeable collectors, world-class gold and platinum jewelry, and limited production watches. Some of his elegant artwork is under license to The Crown Royal Company as a graphic enhancement to a limited version of their Special Reserve Crown Royal whiskey.
He has taught engraving throughout the United States and in several European countries. His proficiency in the art and flawless ability to engrave across a wide range of styles, workpieces and materials offers a unique opportunity for any level student.
