Biography
A true embodiment of the American dream, Bob Finlay grew up in rural Kansas. He put himself through Pre-Engineering and Machine Design in college by working as a meat cutter. After graduation, he went to work for the Safeway food chain, becoming a manager and a division training instructor. Bob continued in the mechanical field during this time and even designed, built, and piloted a world-record-holding dragster. He also started his own business creating archery equipment. Thirty-five years later, this business has grown into a precision plastic injection molding plant accompanied by a tool and die shop where Bob has produced over 500 injection molds to date. In 1980, Bob met the late Don Glaser who introduced him to metal engraving. Students who visit the GRS Training Center have the privilege of viewing some of Bob’s extraordinary deep relief work on guns, knives, battle axes, and American nickels.
