Biography
Marty is a retired art teacher, having taught for 33 years in the New York State school system and has been engraving for over 30 years. He is a Founding Charter Member of the Firearms Engravers Guild of America where he served eleven years as Vice President of the guild and four years as President. He has won numerous awards over the years which include the Engravers Choice Award as well as others from Winchester, Beretta, and Smith and Wesson. Photographs of his work have appeared in various books and magazines including Steel Canvas, Custom Firearms Engraving, Sporting Classics, Safari, Gun Digest, and Knives Illustrated. Colt, Beretta USA, Winchester, several custom gunmakers, and numerous private clients use him to engrave their high-end firearms. With his art training and background as a teacher, he has had much success teaching students the mechanics, theories and “how to’s” of hand engraving. Marty has also developed and presented special seminars teaching engravers and other artists how to combine hand drawing, photography and computer graphic design to develop layout variations for advanced engraving work.
