Biography
Marcus was born in London, England, and spent most of his childhood in the county of Surrey. After finishing school, he was an apprentice to his father, Grand Master Ken Hunt. During this time, Marcus found engraving was truly in his blood. He painstakingly learned the traditional engraving methods that were passed to Ken by his master, Harry Kell, who had been taught by his father. Gradually, Marcus mastered pushing the graver through steel by hand and the gentle rhythms of hammer and chisel work. He also learned the unique techniques Ken developed as well as gold inlay and damascene. After working alongside his father and building his own clients, Marcus became a freelance engraver to the London gun trade. Now living in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds, he is considered one of England’s premier engravers and regularly works on some of the world’s finest sporting arms. His services have even been called upon by the Royal Household. He’s constantly looking for ways to bring the ancient skill and art of hand engraving to new audiences. In October 2007, Marcus assisted his father, Grand Master Ken Hunt, at the Third Annual GRS Grand Masters Program where, among other techniques, students were taught Fine English Scroll and damascening of precious metals. Clearly, the name Hunt will continue to thrive, thanks to the enthusiasm, skill, and hard work of England’s Marcus Hunt.
