Course Description
This popular firearms project course is now available for two different guns. The May course covers engraving a shotgun, while the October course focuses on engraving a rifle. The course material is designed to help developing engravers overcome the hurdles of a complete firearm engraving project. FEGA Master Engraver Rex Pedersen leads the class through the steps of engraving from start to finish. This exciting hands‑on course will give students experience and the confidence to work on further firearm projects in the future.

Course Objectives
  • Disassembling/reassembling the firearm
  • Firearms preparation and finishing
  • Workholding for firearms engraving
  • Explanation of final metal finishes
  • Selecting or designing a layout
  • Background relief and treatment
  • Focus on individual needs during actual studio time for engraving the firearm

Prerequisites
Each student must legally purchase the required model and legally transport it to class. Both classes require prior completion of a Basic course; the rifle project course requires prior completion of a Start‑to‑Finish Firearms Engraving course or instructor approval. Contact GRS for details.
