Scrimshaw, a folk art dating back centuries, is a special form of engraving applied to ivory and similar materials.
This course offers an excellent way to begin traditional and modern scrimshaw including how to work with hand and power tools, the use of black and color pigments, and working on both natural and man-made materials.
Students will also study basic drawing, balanced composition, shading, pattern sizing, and transfer.
This course is specifically designed so no previous art or drawing experience is necessary. It includes a discussion on the business of scrimshaw art and sales venues.
