Course Description
This intermediate course is designed to help students achieve professional quality knife engraving. Each student will start with a Rick Eaton limited addition custom made knife signed and dated with maker’s mark and GRS 2010. Knife will have 440c stainless steel blade, 416 bolsters for engraving, quality wood handle with stainless hidden bolts suitable for engraving. This course guides students through the processes to achieve a fine quality knife engraving, working on a quality knife to industry standards, giving them the necessary instruction to enter the competitive knife engraving field or sole authorship, for the existing knife maker.

Prerequisites
Applicants must have completed a GRS Basic Engraving course or have instructor approval. Students must be able to sharpen basic gravers and make controlled engraving cuts with GRS pneumatic handpieces. Contact GRS for additional details.

Course Objectives
- Tool sharpening review
- Design drawing scrollwork and understanding flow
- Design transfer techniques and applications
- Flush gold inlay, cutting precise dovetails, punch dovetail, outlining with gold
- Relief and directional light backgrounds, background removal
- Making your scrollwork stand out
- Banknote fine line shading including line placement and the illusion of depth
- Bulino shading (may be optional as time permits) dot and line work
