Course Description
Traditional inlay buries all but the very surface of the precious metal below the surface of the metal being inlayed. Gold is far too expensive to not make full use of it. By using overlay and/or damascene techniques this allows the artist to use much less gold or silver—as much as 70% to 80% less, and work quicker.
Many items can be embellished using this technique including firearms, knives, jewelry, and belt buckles as well as things like western spurs, bits, and conchos. Also included within this course will be gold inlay lettering techniques, raised inlays on a textured surface (especially useful when a surface needs preserving), making reusable transfers, and professional tips and pointers for when things go wrong or need repairing.
