Course Description
The hallmark features of advanced western engraving and metalsmithing include metal inlays and overlays. This advanced course specializes in how to set both flush and raised wire and sheet, plus making and setting twisted wire inlays. From start to finish, students will design, pierce, apply, sculpt, and engrave filigree overlays. French Grey finishing will also be taught as part of a final class project.

  • Setting flush & raised sheet inlays
  • Twisted wire designs from one or two different metals
  • Setting twisted wire: flush & raised
  • Trimming & finishing inlays
  • Engraving / sculpting inlays
  • Designing & piercing silver overlays
  • Overlaying silver on steel
  • Sculpting overlays
  • French Grey finishing techniques
