Course Description
Students go through the steps of fabrication, the challenges of finishing, setting stones, and finally engraving the piece. Beginning with design and layout, the student will learn piercing skills, basic silversmithing, clean-up and polishing techniques, bead and gypsy stone setting, carving of overlays, and advanced bright cutting techniques. Each step will be covered through discussion first, followed by application by students. Several designs will be provided, or students may design their own unique piece.
The course is designed around a belt buckle, but the steps and techniques covered are applicable to most pieces of jewelry requiring fabrication, such as bracelets and pendants.
